Electricity

Easy ways to save electricity

Your own usage routines crucially influence electricity consumption in the home. When it’s time to get a new household appliance, it’s worth thinking first about what sort of device you really need. You should then choose from the best alternative from the energy labels.

Switch off the power of electrical entertainment devices

The easiest way to save electricity is to switch off the power of unneeded electrical appliances. Standby modes use electricity even though the device is not in use. In particular, the standby modes of entertainment electronics are one of the main pointless consumers of energy.

Appropriate cold storage

More savings on electricity consumption can be made with cold storage devices than with any other home appliance. Select appliances that are energy efficient and are suited for their requirements. Install them correctly and use then sensibly.

Washing up by machine or by hand?

The energy consumption of dishwashing includes water consumption and heating, and – with dishwashers –  the electricity used. Washing up by hand is cheaper only if the dishes are washed and rinsed in the basin and not under running water.

A short course in underfloor heating

The underfloor heating of bathrooms etc has become more usual, including in apartment blocks that use district heating. It is essential to learn to use and regulate an underfloor heating system correctly so that it doesn’t needlessly add to electricity consumption in the home.
