Entertainment at lower consumption

Home electricity consumption by entertainment electronics is continually increasing. Though the electricity consumed by individual entertainment electronic devices is small compared for instance to kitchen appliances, overall they may use more electricity than a dishwasher or washing machine.

Most electricity used by televisions and computers is due to them being kept on standby mode.

  • Buy electricity efficient devices.
  • When purchasing devices, check that they can be disconnected from the mains without losing their settings or adjustments.
  • Switch off devices completely when you’re not using them.
  • Connect devices to extension leads equipped with switches so you can turn off the power supply of all devices at once.

Did you know?

  • A double tuner digital TV box uses 41 W of electricity and 15 W when on standby mode. If the adapter is kept constantly on standby mode, it will use 160 kW of electricity a year, costing €20.
  • If you watch a 37-inch LCD television for three hours a day and leave it for the rest of the time on standby, the standby mode will consume the same amount of electricity as an average size A+ class refrigerator.
