Renewable Energy Exhibition at ABC Viitasaari
The transport service station ABC Viitasaari houses an exhibition about renewable energy suitable for school groups. Around 97% of the service station’s energy is produced from renewable sources including solar energy, wind power, wood and ambient heat from the lake. The roof of the café’s veranda is covered by almost 100 square metres of solar panels feeding in electricity to the service centre’s power supply. A 10-kilowatt wind turbine can be seen on top of the tower that advertises the service station.
The service station’s renewable energy exhibition has been produced by the University of Jyväskylä to enable visitors to see how the station uses energy from different sources. A multimedia presentation features energy sources including wind power, solar energy and ground-source heat.
The ABC Viitasaari service station also works as a testing laboratory for the university’s training and research programme on renewable energy.
