Lifestyle Role Play Cards

The Finnish Consumer Agency, Motiva and the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation have jointly produced a set of role play cards for use in environmental education for children and young people. Using the cards, players enter into roles, discuss their actions, and share their experiences, while learning how to evaluate the sustainability of their own lifestyles.

The game can be played by children and young people, with rules adapted to suit the age-groups involved.

The 20-card pack features five families whose lifestyles differ greatly in terms of their hobbies, their transport choices, their use of water and electricity, and the material goods they have purchased.

Players act out their roles, and this helps them to learn the three basic principles of sustainable consumption:
  • Consume less!
  • Re-use!
  • Recycle!
By identifying with their varying roles in different situations, pupils learn about the wider consequences of different lifestyle choices.
