Energy audit activities
The aim of energy audits is to analyse the energy use of the audited site, identify the potential for energy savings and propose cost-effective measures to improve energy efficiency.
Energy auditing in Finland is divided into voluntary, subsidised energy audits and mandatory energy audits required by the Energy Efficiency Act.
Voluntary energy audits
Voluntary, subsidised energy audits are aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, municipalities, parishes and foundations. Voluntary energy audits are comprehensive energy use and energy saving target assessments carried out and reported according to specific guidelines.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment can also support the implementation of a renewable energy municipal survey.
Motiva is responsible for all practical tasks related to the supported reviews, including guidance, monitoring, development, quality control, training and counselling of reviewers.
Mandatory inspections under the Energy Efficiency Act
Mandatory energy efficiency audits apply to large companies. The Energy Efficiency Act obliges them to carry out an audit every four years.
An energy audit of a company will examine the energy consumption profile of all the company’s or group’s sites. It also identifies opportunities for energy savings by carrying out site audits at individual sites, which provide detailed information on the site’s energy consumption and the energy efficiency measures appropriate for the site.
Compulsory energy audits for large companies are not eligible for audit support. The Energy Agency administers and enforces mandatory energy audits.
In-depth study for large companies
The in-depth study will help a large company that is a member of the Energy Efficiency Pact to find out how to improve its energy efficiency, increase the share of renewable energy or otherwise make its energy use low-carbon.
A prerequisite for the deep audit support is that the mandatory energy audits required by the Energy Efficiency Act have been carried out or that the energy management system auditing work has been carried out on exempted buildings.
